Healthy Chocolate Brownies with Sweet Deceits

Sweet Deceits brings you deceivingly good-for-you dessert kits, a new and unique way to indulge guilt-free. Just like Mio, we offer a range of clean products, which are free of nasties, but why are they so good for us? Here’s an insight into the nutritional benefits of one of our products – Chocolate Fudge Brownies…

The Feel Good Factor

Our brownies are crammed with raw cacao powder – one of the most antioxidant rich foods on the planet. Eating this super-food increases the levels of serotonin in our brains, a chemical that is responsible for preventing depression and improving our mood. So, chocolate really does make us feel good!

What’s more, there’s a whole load of magnesium in cacao, which is great for relaxing muscles and alleviating stress. It even helps us sleep at night, and who doesn’t love sleep?

Not only do our brownies make you feel good on the inside, but on the outside too. Cacao is rich in sulphur, which is also known as the beauty mineral. It promotes healthy hair, nails and skin.

Banish Those Cravings

Coconut oil binds our brownies together. Now I’m sure you’ve heard people say ‘coconut oil is a good fat’, but what does this mean? Coconut oil doesn’t share the same composition as a normal ‘long chain fatty-acid’ such as cheese, or bacon, it’s a ‘medium chain triglyceride’. This means that it is metabolised differently. In fact, it is absorbed and burned a lot more easily than other fats. It goes straight to our livers, providing a quick source of energy, whilst anything that is not used is converted into ‘ketone bodies’, which have been known to reduce hunger cravings and appetite, perfect for resisting those midnight trips to the fridge.

What about the calories?

A lot of us are still stuck in the mind-set of seeking low calorie foods. At Sweet Deceits, we like to use an analogy about an avocado and a packet of crisps to win people over: an avocado contains more calories than a pack of crisps, but which would you choose to nourish your body? Sometimes low-calorie options aren’t always the best option, it’s important to fuel our bodies in the right way.

If you’re still concerned, here’s another interesting fact… the medium chain fatty acids in coconut oil have been shown to increase daily energy expenditure by as much as 5%, this equates to 120 calories per day.* Burning calories without exercising? Winning!

Naturally Sweet

We use coconut blossom nectar to sweeten our brownies, it has a low GI – so it doesn’t spike your blood sugar levels like other sweeteners such as sugar or even maple syrup. It’s also jam-packed with vitamins and minerals – we like to make sure all of our ingredients carry nutritional benefits.

You might be thinking, how can something so healthy taste good? Well, the proof is in the pudding, so we’re giving all Mio readers 10% off our brownie kits, just use code MIO10, you won’t be disappointed.
