Meet your Matcha: your new body care essential

Matcha, a super fine powder made from ground up green tea leaves, is so much more than the instagrammable, frothy matcha latte you favourite blogger picks up from their favourite London coffee shop.

A powerful antioxidant, matcha is hot off the ‘must-have’press and this is why you should love green tea as ‘matcha’ we do.

What is matcha?

Matcha is a vitamin-rich powerhouse, a souped-up green tea, stronger and more potent. Derived from the Camellia Sinensis plant and made by grinding the whole leaf, matcha is a stalwart in traditional medicine.

Originating from Ancient China and traditional Japanese dynasty tea ceremonies, matcha has since been making moves in modern skincare.

Why is matcha so great?

Matcha is packed full of powerful antioxidants, specifically catechin polyphenols. Catechin polyphenols help to trap and inactivate free radicals trapped in the skin, helping to reduce inflammation and redness and stopping the clock on ageing caused by environmental factors.

  • Acne-prone skin: Polyphenols capture trapped free-radicals on the skin, great news for those to help clear up body acne. Polyphenols help to bring dirt and bacteria to the surface of the skin to be cleansed away and leave skin glowing and clear.
  • Ageing skin: Matcha is rich in caffeine which can help to tighten skin. Polyphenols and their free-radical fighting abilities help to keep the skin elastic.
  • Uneven skin: The antioxidants found in matcha can help to even out skin tone and clear up hyperpigmentation.

How to use matcha in your body care routine

Just like any skincare routine, cleansing is your first port of call.

Mio Skincare’s Clay Away 2 in 1 Body Cleanser and Mask is a go-to for introducing matcha into your shower routine. Apply to wet skin and rinse off for a daily cleanse or apply to dry skin and let dry for 5 minutes before rinsing for a deeper skin detox.

Clay Away is packed full of detoxing ingredients to leave your skin feeling smooth, decongested and glowy:

  • White and Rosa Clays: the fine, mineral-rich particles of clay have a high absorption capacity for gentle but effective cleansing.
  • Matcha Tea: Rich in powerful antioxidants and polyphenols to neutralise the effects of impurities and free-radicals trapped in the skin.
  • Witch Hazel: A powerful antioxidant and naturally astringent skincare ingredient to help decongest and clarify pores.
