After the success of our pumpkin smoothie, we launched a campaign to find out YOUR favourite smoothie recipe! It’s safe to say all you lovely ladies out there have a favourite fruit – in fact it was featured in EVERY entry! That is of course the BANANA!
What’s not to love about a banana? Have it on pancakes, in bread, with chocolate (cheat day calls…) Without doubt it’s delicious, so we weren’t surprised when it popped up time and time again!
- There are approximately 1000 different types of banana plants in the world! However, most of these are inedible.
- Over 100 BILLION bananas are eaten each year… That’s a lot of banana smoothies!
- Fastest marathon ever run by a banana was recorded at the Barcelona marathon in 2011 with a time of 2 hours 58 minutes.
So here it goes, here are two of our favourite recipes that were sent in from Mio fans!
Banana smoothie recipe from Kat
My measurements are loose! The more banana you add the thicker the smoothie.
Freeze a couple of bananas cut in chunks over night. If the bananas are a bit brown, all the better as they have plenty of flavour.
Place in a bowl, smoothie maker or food processor with 4 or 5 big spoons of natural yoghurt. Add some honey, maple syrup or agave according to how sweet your tooth is. Add about a pint of milk, again your choice, cows, soya, almond, coconut all work great. Then whizz until smooth and drink immediately.
That’s the basic recipe but if you’ve got berries going squishy in the fridge or some in the freezer, add them. You can add any favourite fruit to this, mango, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries…….softer fruit works best.
You could go mad and add some alternative ingredients like wheat germ etc. – what ever floats your boat!
