Male Pregnancy Symptoms

To celebrate International Men’s Day on Thursday, we wanted to dedicate this post to all the wonderful men out there (without whom the mini miracles would not have been possible!)

Before we take a peek at the most popular male pregnancy symptoms, we want to hear all about your partner’s pregnancy experience! Just pop over to our social accounts @MamaMioSkincare and share your story with us and all the other mums and dads out there!

The Big Question – Are Male Pregnancy Symptoms True or False?

We’ve gathered four of the top male pregnancy symptoms (or should we say sympathy symptoms) but have dads-to-be ever experienced them? – If so, you know what to do! 😉

Nausea

Morning (or should we say all-day) sickness is something that pregnant women know all too well! Although it’s not proven what exactly causes that nauseating feeling, it is widely suggested that this is your body’s reaction to a change in hormones. We’ve heard a few stories of men who have also felt ‘morning sickness’ – so, what supposedly causes them to react in a similar way to their partner?

Apparently men feel this way due to heightened anxiety and a change in diet (but we’ll get to that in a moment). The pressure of looking after both mama and baby can affect men in different ways. Let’s just hope there are two bathrooms near-by!

Aches and Pains

It’s been reported that some men experience aches and pains in similar places as their pregnant partner! This is predominant during labour, with many men claiming they feel contractions… Get in touch if your baby’s daddy was struck with labour pains in the delivery suite!

Mood Swings

It’s not uncommon for women to suffer from hormonal mood swings during pregnancy, but watch out because there could be two pre-Madonna’s under the same roof! Sleepless nights can affect both yours and the dad-to-be’s mood. Insomnia, along with nerves may lead to mixed emotions. Just take a deep breath, relax and enjoy any precious, happy moments!

Gaining Weight

Now, as we know, women are encouraged to up their calorie intake by 300-450 a day during their second and third trimesters, but this does not by any means they are eating for two. Nor does it mean that your baby’s daddy should be! It is, however, natural to put on a bit of extra weight with the stress of the baby arriving for both partners, and on the plus side you’ll have a gym partner later on!

Although he’s not carrying a baby (obviously) most of the male pregnancy symptoms explored above are suggested to be the effects of sympathy and anxiety as your body prepares for the next nine months (…and beyond!)

Most importantly take this experience on together and try to enjoy every moment!
